Where to Begin

To successfully complete this lesson, you will need to:

  1. Read and study the chapter lesson
  2. Study the example files
  3. If you have questions, you can send an Email to: msullivan@ccac.edu
  4. Create the assignment

Once you have completed this lesson, you will need to:

  1. Create a master file folder for your assignment
  2. Compress the file folder
  3. Email the compressed folder to: msullivan@ccac.edu

You will receive feedback on how well you completed the assigment.



Software

All the software you will need for this lesson are included with your Windows operating system:

  • Text Editor - Notepad
  • Browser: MS Internet Explorer

Notepad is a basic text editor with no special formatting capabilities. This is essential because HTML documents must remain pure text.

To locate Notepad:

  1. Click Start button
  2. Move mouse pointer to All Programs
  3. Move mouse pointer to Accessories
  4. Click on Notepad

Microsoft Internet Explorer is the preferred browser as it supports most of the HTML standards in the industry.



Creating Folders

A file folder is a graphical image representation or icon of a container used to store programs, files and images providing a method of organization on the computer. The following walks you through the steps to create folders:

  1. Right-click on a blank area of the screen
  2. The right-click menu opens
  3. Move mouse pointer to New and a second menu will open
  4. Then move mouse pointer to Folder and click

New Folder:

A new folder appears with the text New Folder selected

Ready to Name:

The selected text indicates that it is ready for you to type in a name for the folder

Use the Menu to Create a folder:

You can also use the menu on the left: click "Make a new folder" as the tool tip explains




Compressing Folders

To Compress a Folder:

  1. Right-click on the folder to be compressed
  2. Move mouse pointer to "Send To"
  3. When the next menu opens, click "Compressed (zipped) Folder"

Compressed Folder:

The compressed folder image will have a zipper indicating compression
